*The man suspected in the shooting deaths of a television reporter and photographer during a live broadcast has died at a Northern Virginia hospital, Franklin County, Va. Sheriff Bill Overton confirmed in a news conference Wednesday.
Vester Lee Flanagan II, 41, shot himself along a Virginia interstate Wednesday morning and was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax County. He died at 1:30 p.m., according to Sheriff Overton.
Police identified Flanagan as the suspect in the killing of Alison Parker and Adam Ward. The three had worked together at WDBJ7, the CBS affiliate in Roanoke.
Police said Flanagan — who went by the name Bryce Williams professionally — walked up to Parker and Ward during a live report at Smith Mountain Lake, near Roanoke. Flanagan shot and killed Parker and Ward and wounded the woman they were interviewing, Vicki Gardner, the head of the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce, police said. Flanagan drove away from the scene.
Gardner underwent emergency surgery, according to a Roanoke hospital. She is in stable condition.
