Rebounding from criticismreceived from spending $20,000 on a painting of himself, NBA star John Wall is putting his money on a better cause.
The athlete surprised the folks and kids at Bright Beginnings with a $400,000 donation during an appearance at the Washington, D.C.-based homeless shelter on Friday (Sept. 25).
“This morning, Washington Wizards point guard, John Wall surprised our organization and BBI Executive Director, Dr. Betty Jo Gaines with a generous donation of $400,000. This phenomenal contribution will significantly impact the development of Bright Beginnings’ second child development center at 3418 4th Street SE in Ward 8,” Bright Beginnings Executive Director, Dr. Betty Jo Gaines announced on the shelter’s Facebook page. “Support from individuals like Mr. Wall, gives Bright Beginnings the encouragement to continue to provide comprehensive services for homeless children in the District of Columbia. It is evident that John Wall is sensitive and concerned about the plight of homeless children in DC and he wants theses children to succeed.”
Wall’s donation comes days after folks took him to task for shelling out dough for a Madsteez painting as well as thousands of dollars on a collection of expensive wristwatches, a custom $8,000 suit from designer David August and a $2,500 Ulysses Nardin barometer, Sandra Rose notes.
With his charitable donation, has Wall redeemed himself in the public eye?
