Vanity Fair - Late Night Hosts

Trevor Noah (bottom, left) on new Vanity Fair cover featuring late night hosts

*Comedy Central’s late night hosts Trevor Noah and Larry Wilmore are the lone people of color appearing on Vanity Fair’s new cover featuring all of the late night hosts, but more pressing than TV’s lack of diversity after hours – according to the social media backlash surrounding the cover – is late night’s complete absence of women.

Although Samantha Bee and Chelsea Handler will have late night shows this fall, they were excluded from the spread. [Samantha inserted herself into the Vanity Fair cover via twitter.]

Noah responded to the Vanity Fair outrage in Newsweek. “Yes, that Vanity Fair [spread] is all men, which is what it is. But I guess what we need to look at is how is that evolving?” he said. “The first step in that is you go, OK, there’s two men of color. That’s a big jump. Pretty soon there will be a woman that’ll be added to that. And there will probably be more women, which is gonna be fantastic. And over time, that’ll happen; it’s a conversation that we need to continue having.”

“The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” premieres Sept. 28 at 11 p.m. on Comedy Central.
