*”For me it was a difficult conflict, but then I met Dr. Bennet Omalu, who is the doctor who discovered CTE” (chronic traumatic encephalopathy).
Award season was officially launched this week at the star-studded 19th annual Hollywood Film Awards. Megastar, Will Smith, was honored for his role in “Concussion,” while late-night talk show host James Corden, was the master of ceremonies.
“I was a football parent for four years, my oldest son played at a football powerhouse,” shares Smith about his dramatic role. “Dr. Omalu is a magnificent, honorable, and beautifully naive man. He talked me through the science and his experience…after our meeting I couldn’t say no. It’s a powerful story. Dr. Omalu is a man, whose greatest dream was to be an American. He said, ‘I viewed America as, where God sent his favorite people.'”
Smith accepted the Hollywood Actor Award for “Concussion” from Jamie Foxx, and spoke passionately about wanting to honor the truth of the film while also being a football dad.
