*Congratulations are in order for Shannon Sanders who made history earlier this summer, when he was elected President of the Nashville Chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, the governing body that presents The Grammy Awards. Shannon’s election makes him the first African American in the history of the chapter to hold that position.
“I’m excited, not so much for myself but because of what it says about our city as a whole,” shares Shannon.
“The Fisk Jubilee Singers first earned Nashville its ‘Music City’ title and then country music made Nashville its home base. What all of this speaks to is the fact that we’re very diversified. Nashville is the kind of city where amazingly talented songwriters, producers and artists from all genres can record, perform and also call the city ‘home’. To be able to be a part of an organization that is so passionate about our industry and advocating for the challenges that we face, that is something that I am thrilled to be a part of. A place where I am proud to serve.” Shannon Sanders, singer, song writer, music director for India.Arie & current Pres. of NARAS’ Nashville, Tennessee chapter.
It was just a few years ago when Grammy, Emmy & Dove award winner and producer producer Shannon Sanders released his inspiring-call-to-action song “Man Up.” Shannon continues to stay busy and focused on inspiring others. He’s still making amazing music with artists from all genres, using his platform to encourage, and motivate young people to reach their goals in general and to support those in high schools and colleges who have a passion for music. Shannon is also featured in The Anatomy of the Music Industry by Dr. Logan H. Westbrooks. He’s got some great quotes in there! ©Shellie R. Warren/2015
