conrad alvin barrett and roy coleman*One month after a Texas man was sentenced to nearly six years in prison for the unprovoked punching of a then-79-year-old black man, footage of the incident has been released.

According to the New York Daily News, Conrad Alvin Barrett is captured in the video revealing that although he had been planning his November 2013 attack on Roy Coleman for over a week, he had not built up the “courage” do so.

The minute-long clip of the incident, which Barrett, recorded on his cell phone, shows him greeting Coleman, walking up to him, and punching him while he laughing and yelling “Knockout!” as Coleman landed onto the ground.

“For about a week now, I have been unable to go through with the plan,” Barrett said. “The plan is to see if I were to hit a black person, would this be nationally televised?”

Coleman ended up with two fractures to his jaw.

Barrett’s arrest came days later when he bragged about the racially motivated attack to patrons, including an off-duty police officer, at a local bar. He was later charged with a federal hate crime.

Barrett’s video of his assault on Coleman isn’t the only racist footage police found on his phone. The Daily News reports that Barrett is shown using racial slurs and offering offensive commentary in other videos. He even goes as far to say that black people “haven’t fully experienced the blessing of evolution” in one of the videos.

For the attack on Coleman, Barrett was recently sentenced to 71 months in prison and ordered to pay a $2,000 restitution fee and be supervised by officials after he serves his time.

Weighing in on the incident, Coleman’s daughter, Donna McNeal mentioned that her father has not been the same since the attack. As a result, she said the attack has changed his speech, and has also had lasting emotional effects on Coleman, who says it reminds him of the racism he endured as a child.

“He’s 81. So you know it goes way back. Emotionally, I think he’s kinda, like, broken,” she told the news station Click2Houston while expressing sympathy for Barrett’s family. “My heart goes out to his parents because they are hurting just like we are. They’re hurting because they’ve lost a son and I’m hurting because I’ve lost half of my dad.”
