*It was a simple mistake.
Yep, that’s the reason for refusing “Today” show weatherman Al Roker, says the New York City cabbie who didn’t pick up him and his son last weekend.
According to reports, snubbing Roker is carrying a hefty price for Mahabur Rahman, who faces up to $1,350 in fines from the city’s Taxi & Limousine Commission after Roker filed a complaint against him. In Roker’s eyes, the incident was racially motivated in light of the cab driver bypassing him to pick up a white customer
“It’s a misunderstanding. Maybe he saw me and I didn’t see him. How I refuse him?” Rahman said. “Anybody would pick him. He looks like a gentleman. That’s our business. If you ride with my car, you’re going to make the money.”
Roker’s grievance with Rahman isn’t the first time the Bangladeshi driver has been taken to task for not picking up folks. Rahman was fined for a similar incident in May and had to pay $200.
With this being the second time he’s gotten in trouble, Rahman now faces a $1,000 fine and a possible 30-day suspension of his license if found guilty. In his case goes to trial, he could face additional charges that include penalties between $150 and $350.
