*The TV listings indicated that Chris Brown would perform on “The Daily Show” Tuesday night. But viewers tuned in to find Nick Cannon plugging his new film “Chi-Raq.”
What happened to Breezy?
“Guest bookings are always subject to change,” Comedy Central said Wednesday in a statement, when asked. “The show hopes to reschedule Chris for a future appearance.”
Truth is, “The Daily Show” quietly cancelled his scheduled appearance at the last minute, and Comedy Central declined to say if it was linked to a report the previous day that Breezy’s assault conviction for beating Rihanna had become a problem for host Trevor Noah.
According to a Daily Beast report on Monday, several staffers “disapproved” of having Brown on the show, despite Noah’s plan to go beyond the mere promotion of his new album and use Brown’s interview as a platform to discuss domestic violence issues, particularly because Noah’s own mother was abused by his former stepfather.
Since the Daily Beast article, multiple outlets have pointed out Noah’s past tweets that actually made light of Brown’s assault. One tweet read: “Chris Brown’s FAME album is no#1 on iTunes. Rihanna is cancelling shows due to poor sales. I guess he beat her again.”
Another, in October 2009, read, “Today because of allergies, I woke up and my face was puffy and swollen- I looked like I was in the car with chris brown.”
Noah has maintained, when news outlets looked at his Twitter history once before, after he was named Jon Stewart’s replacement on the much-lauded late-night show, that “To reduce my views to a handful of jokes that didn’t land is not a true reflection of my character, nor my evolution as a comedian.”
