*Gabourey Sidibe is helping V magazine celebrate its 100th anniversary by sporting black lingerie on the latest cover.
The “Empire” star took to Instagram to post an image of the publication, along with a caption thanking the photographers, Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, for their great work.
“Another photoshoot for @vmagazine with @inezandvinoodh for #v100,” she wrote.
The cover comes months after Sidibe responded to online criticism over her love scene on “Empire” that aired in November. The actress found herself to be the subject of cruel jokes and memes. However, the confident star was unphased by the hate, writing in a blog for EW:
“Yes. I, a plus sized, dark-skinned woman, had a love scene on primetime television. I had the most fun ever filming that scene even though I was nervous. But I felt sexy and beautiful and I felt like I was doing a good job. I’m very proud of the work we all did to make that scene a great opening for the episode. I keep hearing that people are “hating” on it. I’m not sure how anyone could hate on love but that’s okay. You may have your memes. Honestly, I’m at work too busy to check Twitter anyway. #Booked. Hope you enjoy next week’s show!”
The Academy Award nominee also appeared on the magazine’s cover back in 2010. She posted a throwback image of the cover, along with a thank you message. “#Flashbackfriday to my first magazine cover!! @vmagazine marked a huge milestone in my journey and I am grateful to them and @inezandvinoodh for shooting me. I was so young and beautiful then. Now I’m younger and even more beautiful,” she wrote.
