*D’Angelo Russell of the Los Angeles Lakers is now cashing in on his cell phone scandal that betrayed teammate Nick Young and probably led to Nick’s breakup with former fiancée Iggy Azalea.
Russell, who secretly taped Young admitting to infidelity and was roundly labeled a snitch when the footage leaked online, mocks the ordeal in a new commercial for Foot Locker, which has him lounging in a beach house with other NBA youngins, as well as projected No. 1 draft pick Ben Simmons.
Asked directly by Simmons to offer advice on how to make it in the NBA, Russell answers with a question of his own.
“Got a phone?”
Simmons hands over his cell phone and Russell immediately chucks it over the balcony, into the ocean.
Simmons has yet to be drafted, but in addition to Foot Locker, the former LSU forward also has an endorsement deal with Nike.
The spots—each a part of Foot Locker’s “approved” marketing campaign created by worldwide ad agency BBDO—will air nationally on ESPN during the live broadcast of the 2016 NBA draft.
