Nate Parker in “The Birth of a Nation”

*After months of teaser promos and “living posters,” a first official trailer has at last been released for Nate Parker’s “The Birth of a Nation.”

The film about slave revolt leader Nat Turner’s rebellion is one of the most anticipated of the year following its headline-making takeover of Sundance.

The first half of the 2 min. 37 second trailer depicts the harsh realities of slavery as seen through the eyes of preacher Turner, played by Parker. The second half, set to Andra Day’s “Rise Up,” sees Turner inspiring his revolt, ending in him leading a charge of slaves against a white militia.

The film made Sundance history with its record-breaking $17.5 million sale to Fox Searchlight.

“The Birth of a Nation,” also directed by Parker, is set for release on Oct. 7.
