*Journalist Tavis Smiley and filmmaker J.J. Abrams are teaming to develop Smiley’s new book, “Before You Judge Me: The Triumph and Tragedy of Michael Jackson’s Last Days” for Warner Bros. Television, reports Variety.

Due out Tuesday (June 21) from publisher Little, Brown and Company, the book looks at the highs and lows of Jackson’s life and his constant hunt for personal privacy.

J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Smiley’s company Tavis Smiley TV & Film both have TV production deals with the studio. Both will serve as executive producers on the project with Ben Stephenson and David Brewington.

So far, no network is attached.

Bad Robot, Tavis Smiley TV & Film and Warner Bros. TV are also joining forces for a series based on Smiley’s book “Death of a King: The Real Story of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Final Year.”

Additionally, Smiley is working with Warner Bros. Television on an adaptation of his book “My Journey With Maya,” a memoir of his 30-year friendship with poet Maya Angelou.
