*The University of Minnesota will award a posthumous honorary degree to Prince.
The university’s 12 regents voted unanimously Friday to bestow a College of Liberal Arts degree to Prince Rogers Nelson, the culmination of an effort that began before his death on April 21.
University president, Eric Kaler, said in a statement that Minnesotans and people around the world are celebrating Prince’s life and contributions. The university says arrangements for ceremoniously awarding the degree are pending.
Prince died from an accidental overdose of the narcotic painkiller fentanyl.
