*WGN America presented the exclusive screening and panel discussion for the hit show “Underground” at the Landmark Theatres in Los Angeles, Ca.
“Underground” follows a group of courageous men and women who use their ingenuity, power and perseverance to attempt the greatest escape in history and break free despite the consequences.
In a time where many have voiced a need to see bodies of work that don’t just show African Americans as slaves and the various other remakes that continue to remind us of the hardships Africans, African- Americans or if you prefer, Blacks have endured.
This show however has a refreshing take on the history of slavery because its’ focus is on how the slaves revolted. These characters played by Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Aldis Hodge, Alano Miller and Amirah Vann get to be strong, fearless, bold & smart. The first season was so popular it scored over three millions views and sparked massive social media debates.
EUR associate Herica Thompson was on the scene to talk with the above mentioned cast, director/executive producer Anthony Hemingway and creator/executive producer Misha Green about the upcoming season two, Emmy talk, the characters and tackling the harsh material as well as silencing naysayers.
Deadline’s Senior Editor Dominic Patten moderated this event. Watch the red carpet highlights and interviews in the video below.
