*A new album from A Tribe Called Quest, recorded before Phife Dawg’s death earlier this year, is in the pipeline at Epic Records, according to its CEO L.A. Reid.
“We have a Tribe Called Quest album coming. I’m really excited about that,” Reid said on the Rap Radar podcast. “A brand new album they recorded before Phife passed away.”
Reid said the as-yet-untitled album features all original members – Q Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi White. “I’m really happy about it man, it’s really something special. It’s one of the things I’m most excited about over everything we’re working on,” Reid said.
The album will be the group’s first since 1998’s “The Love Movement” and the first to feature White since 1990’s “People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm.”
Phife Dawg, born Malik Izaak Taylor, died in his home in Contra Costa County, Calif. on March 22, 2016 due to complications relating to diabetes. He was 45.
