*Earlier today, Donald Trump once again proved he doesn’t even remotely have the temperament to be president … or even deserve to be with a hundred miles of the White house after he made a really stupid and troubling comment about Hillary Clinton.

The jackass in him came out during a speech on Tuesday in which he said Hillary Clinton was out to abolish the Second Amendment but the Second Amendment people know how to stop her.

It appeared to many observers to suggest taking up arms against his rival. He made the remark at a rally in North Carolina.

“Hillary wants to abolish — essentially abolish — the Second Amendment,” Trump said. “If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is. I don’t know.”

The response from Clinton and her supporters was swift. In an interview with the public radio program Texas Standard, Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine said, “There is absolutely no place, there should be no place in our politics for somebody who wants to be a leader to say something even in an offhand way that is connected to inciting violence.”

Naturally, the Trump campaign was quick to dispute that interpretation. In an emailed statement with the subject line, “Trump Campaign Statement on Dishonest Media,” Trump spokesman Jason Miller said:

“It’s called the power of unification – 2nd Amendment people have amazing spirit and are tremendously unified, which gives them great political power. And this year, they will be voting in record numbers, and it won’t be for Hillary Clinton, it will be for Donald Trump.”

Later, Trump doubled down on the explanation in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity:

“This is a political movement. This is a strong, powerful movement, the Second Amendment. You know, Hillary wants to take your guns away.”
