*In this week’s “Oprah: Where Are They Now?” airing Saturday, August 27 at 10 pm ET/PT on OWN, the show’s producers travel to Atlanta to catch up with original “Yo! MTV Raps” host Ed Lover at the city’s Radio One Studios, from which Ed broadcasts his daily morning syndicated radio show.

In this exclusive clip from OWN to EURweb, Lover shares how the iconic rap video show came together, how he met Doctor Dre for the very time during auditions, and what they had to agree to in order to get the hosting gig together.

Lover is justifiably proud of “Yo! MTV Raps,” and claims that the show exposed East Coast hip-hop to the West Coast, vice-versa. It was also the original source for introducing hip-hop to the rest of the world.

And in his own unique style, Ed Lover recalls advice his mama gave him that convinced him to keep his day job — as a high school security officer — well into the run of “Yo! MTV Raps.”
