*“Nashville” has signed up singer-songwriter Rhiannon Giddens, co-founder of the Grammy-winning string band Carolina Chocolate Drops, in a recurring role for its upcoming season on CMT, reports Variety.

Giddens will play Hanna “Hallie” Jordan, a young social worker who turns out to have the voice of an angel. She tweeted a pic from Thursday’s table read with co-star Charles Esten.

Giddens, who also plays banjo and fiddle in Carolina Chocolate Drops, began gaining recognition as a solo artist when she stole the show at the T Bone Burnett-produced “Another Day, Another Time” concert at New York City’s Town Hall in 2013.

That life changing performance was featured in a piece about Giddens on “CBS This Morning.” Watch below:

Her acclaimed solo debut album, “Tomorrow Is My Turn,” mixes gospel, jazz, blues and country influences. She is currently working on her follow-up album to be released in 2017.
