*Back in February, Oprah Winfrey was among the first people outside of a film festival to see Nate Parker’s “The Birth of a Nation” when she reportedly screened it privately with her BFF Gayle King.
“Nate Parker, we just saw your film … that you produced, wrote, directed, starred in. … We bow to you, my brother,” she said Feb. 1 on Instagram.
Since the screening, controversy has hovered around Parker over the rape case he was involve in 17 years ago while a student at Penn State.
Winfrey was at the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank on Aug. 29 for the premiere of “Queen Sugar” (which she co-created with Ava DuVernay) when The Hollywood Reporter asked her about the recent headlines surrounding Parker. Winfrey politely declined to comment.
“I will not talk about it on the red carpet. Not the place, but thank you.”
Also not answering was DuVernay, whose series coincidentally includes a storyline about a woman accusing NBA players of gang rape.
