*Building upon its successful recipe of resuscitating old game shows, ABC is currently reviving “Battle of the Network Stars,” the series of specials in the ‘70s and ‘80s that featured TV talent from the Big Three networks competing in sporting events.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network is already casting an updated version with a production start planned for May.
Like the original, the rebooted version would pull actors from the broadcast networks, now much wider than the Big Three (ABC, NBC and CBS). After the original series of specials wrapped in 1985, the show had a one-off several years later, and NBC briefly brought it back in 2003 — although it only featured talent from its own network.
If the reboot goes forward, it will join “Celebrity Family Feud,” “Match Game,” “The $100,000 Pyramid” and the upcoming “The Gong Show” on ABC’s roster of familiar games this summer.
