EUR: “Fences” has made over $60 million at the box office, received four Oscar nominations and Viola Davis won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. What is it like to be a part of all this success?

Jovan Adepo: It’s been a ever memorable journey. I’ve been spoiled just being able to be a part of this film and to tell this story with a great group of talented actors. I couldn’t pray for anything better.

Going to the Oscars was amazing. Meeting a lot of actors I look up to and being in that environment was a blessing.

Saniyya Sidney: Going to the Oscars was awesome. My dress was pretty, my face was pretty, everything was pretty! People getting to know my name…I’m very blessed to be a part of this. It has been my dream for a long time.

I’m wearing roses on my dress today to represent Rose Maxson (Viola Davis’ character). Viola deserved to win the Oscar. This is a funny story… right before her category, there was a commercial break and I went up to her and said, ‘Hi, Viola are you ready to win your Oscar?’ And Denzel (Washington) was like, ‘WOW! She already knows.’ And then she won!

EUR: What was it like having Denzel Washington as your director?

Saniyya Sidney: Awesome! Not all of the directors I have worked with have been awesome. He was nice and we had fun. He even taught me how to hit a baseball for the first time!

EUR: What did you learn while working with Oscar winner Viola Davis?

Jovan Adepo: Patience. I’m still battling with it now. One of my biggest issues is enjoying the journey, embracing it for what it is and taking moments one at a time.

Saniyya Sidney: She taught me how to stay in character and how to get emotional.
