*During a screening and conversation with the cast and creatives of “American Crime” on March 1, 2017 in Beverly Hills, I couldn’t take my eyes of this beautiful French black actress strolling across the purple carpet at the PaleyLive LA.
Her name is Mickaëlle X. Bizet.
New to the scene, she joins the influx of deep brown beauties on the silver screen. Think about it. New comers on “Underground,” “Shots Fired,” “24” … their melanin is “poppin” and I’m loving every minute of it!
During my interview with Mickaëlle, she discussed the eerie way this role found itself knocking on her door. Her character, Gabrielle Durand, has a storyline of a foreign woman who travels to the US as a nanny in hopes of the American Dream so many desire. One slight difference, she is French, her character is Haitian. Her acting is so natural, settled and rich. EURweb could have just discovered the next Viola Davis! Hey, you never know…remember the uncanny connection to the role?
She admitted that she is blessed to lock such a great show like “American Crime.” After a small French tutorial, Bizet gives advice to all the black women out there who have dreams. Take a look above!
This was the first time that Paley Center has produced an event with the ABC limited anthology series American Crime. The series was created by John Ridley (Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar Winner for “12 Years a Slave”/2014) for ABC and over the first two seasons has covered racial bias in the legal system and sexual assault with his co-Producer Michael McDonald.
The upcoming 3rd season of the fourteen time Emmy-nominated series will focus on forced labor issues in the agriculture community, economic divides, individual rights, modern day slavery and indentured servitude.
The talented ensemble cast has returning and cast members including Felicity Huffman, Connor Jessup, Richard Cabral, Benito Martinez, Ana Mulvoy-Ten and Mickaëlle X. Bizet that will portray how people from various backgrounds approach and react to crime.
