*Season 6 of “Oprah’s Master Class” begins this weekend and Oprah Winfrey has kept it in the OWN family with her longtime production colleague Tyler Perry and “Greenleaf” star Lynn Whitfield first up to bat.
The series, featuring first–person insights into the minds of entertainers and public figures, returns Tuesday, Aug. 22 at 10 p.m. ET/PT with Perry, followed by Whitfield’s on Wednesday, Aug. 23 at 11p.m. ET/PT.
A natural entertainer, Perry grew up being told he would be somebody. Despite enduring abuse as a child and years as a struggling playwright, he became a film and TV mogul, crediting God, his mother’s love—and Oprah—with guiding him along the way.
Watch a sneak peek and advance clips from Perry’s episode below:
Below: Even as a young boy, Perry understood he had the special ability to make people laugh and bring them joy, however, he says he most cherishes the laughter that came from one particular fan: his late mother.
Below: At age 44 Perry got the biggest surprise of his life when he found out he was going to be a father. After his son was born in 2014, Tyler’s life shifted in the best way possible.
Watch a sneak peek and advance clips from Whitfield’s episode below:
Below: Whitfield admits that when she married director Brian Gibson, a Buddhist, it was an adjustment to get used to his chanting and unfamiliar practices — especially the time he told Lynn that the spirit of their unborn daughter was ready to join the family.
Below: Actress Lynn Whitfield has many role models she looks to for inspiration in her life, but writer and actress Ruby Dee is one of her standouts.
